Find a Mentor, Understand your Role, and Pass the Exam!
The journey of a young, California lawyer is nearly impossible to predict. It’s a different experience for every new attorney. Here are some helpful pointers that’ll help make the transition more enjoyable.
Locate a Mentor
It is beneficial to develop a relationship with an individual who has been in the game. The path to finding a guru – of sorts – is an organic one. And when it happens, years of wisdom, guidance, and familiarity become accessible.
Know your Place
You’re starting at the bottom of the totem pole, that’s just the way it is. Don’t be surprised if a secretary or paralegal with years at the firm seems more valuable than you do. The partners trust them. Don’t force the rise to the top, it’ll happen.
Don’t merely pass the bar, destroy it! Entering a firm, fresh of the Bar with exceptional scores, says a lot about your work ethic, intellect, and competence – study, study hard, and study effectively!
